Q. How do I renew my Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW) Work Permit?
A. A renewal notice will be sent to you about 2 months before your Foreign Domestic Worker (FDW) Work Permit (WP) expires. Renewal can only be done 30 days from expiry. For example, a WP that expires on 12 Feb 2007, can only be renewed from 13 Jan 2007 to 12 Feb 2007.

You may do an e-Renewal using Work Permit Online (WPOL) or engage an Employment Agent (EA) to assist you.

For e-Renewal, you will need to do the following before doing renewal:
1. Ensure that the worker's Passport is valid for at least 7 months from the existing Work Permit's expiry date.
2. Complete Work Permit Renewal Application Form/e-Renewal Notice.
3. Complete the Security Bond (SB) Form (applicable to non-Malaysian workers). For FDW, the SB Form must be signed by the legal employer.
4. Furnish a new Security Deposit (SD)/extend the existing SD (applicable to non-Malaysian workers ) as follows :

(i) You are required to submit a new SD of S$5,000 in a Banker's/Insurance Guarantee made in favour of the Controller of Immigration, Singapore.
(ii) The Bank/Insurance company must transmit the Banker's/Insurance Guarantee details successfully to the WPD before you can e-renew the worker's Work Permit.
5. Furnish a new Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)/extend the existing PAI (applicable to all foreign domestic workers, including Malaysian domestic workers). The Bank/Insurance company must transmit the PAI details successfully to the WPD before you can e-renew the worker's Work Permit. For domestic workers who are only required to furnish a PAI (excluding SD), the employer/authorised EA is required to submit the PAI to the WPSC.
6. With effect from 1 January 2008, FDW employers must purchase and maintain insurance for the medical expenses for their FDWs, for new FDWs and FDWs due for renewal.

Once you have the done 1 to 6, you will proceed to renew using WPOL. You may check the status of the renewal via WPOL within the same day. You will then print the notification letter and bring it along with the below listed items to collect your FDW WP card at WPSC. The employer/authorised employment agency is required to bring:

(i) The original e-Renewal Notification Letter (the one that is printed from WPOL);
(ii) The completed Work Permit Renewal Application Form/e-Renewal Notice with the necessary endorsements, if required;
(iii) The worker's original Work Permit card. If the card is lost, a letter of declaration by the worker is required.
(iv) The worker's original passport/travel document. If the worker is using a new passport, please bring the old and new passports.
(v) The completed original Security Bond (SB) Form (applicable to non-Malaysian workers); and
(vi) The employer's Authorisation Letter if a representative is coming on the employer's behalf. The person who is collecting the Work Permit card has to bring his identity card/passport.
